Measures of the UAS Grisons

State: 21.01.2021

Corona case numbers in Switzerland - and also in Grisons - have increased rapidly in the past days and weeks. We also regularly register new cases at the UAS Grisons. The epidemiological situation is deteriorating rapidly. On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, the Federal Council therefore tightened up measures to combat the pandemic throughout Switzerland.

The universities in Switzerland are called upon to switch back to distance learning. From Monday, November 2, 2020, the Grisons University of Applied Sciences will cease to provide face-to-face teaching until further notice. This adjustment should help to contain the spread of the virus while maintaining the best possible quality of teaching under current conditions. Reducing the number and intensity of personal contacts is a central factor in containing the infection.

The following rules apply:

  • No attendance classes in bachelor, master and continuing education.
  • The class schedule remains and is binding.
  • Laboratories, workshops and similar special forms of classes are possible in small groups upon request and in strict compliance with the protection concept.
  • The module examinations of the autumn semester 2020 will be conducted remotely.
  • On-site events have to be held online, if not this is not be possible, either cancelled or  postponed.
  • Excursions are cancelled until further notice.

Masks and home office

Since October 19, 2020 wearing masks on the premises (indoor and outdoor) of the UAS Grisons is mandatory. The presence of people on site will be reduced to the maximum.

The employees of the UAS Grisons have been working from home wherever possible since November 2020. Since 18 January 2021, the Federal Council's decision has made it compulsory to work from home wherever this is possible due to the nature of the activity and can be implemented with a reasonable amount of effort.

How can I stay healthy?

The canton of Graubünden summarizes the recommended hygiene rules at the workplace in this video.

Both the virtual university as well as home office have an impact on the health of each individual. Social isolation, lack of exercise and fresh air can become a burden. The Health Management Commission and the University Sports Department therefore provide some tips and online resources so that we can continue to stay together despite keeping our distance.

External advisory office

The UAS Grisons has the offer of an external, free advice centre in the area of coaching.

Where can I find support?

Student Services support in times of need

If you have any concerns or questions about student life or any other personal topics, the internal counselling service is here to support you. Maria Simmen and her team support you by phone, e-mail or video calls. Take the first step and contact beratung@fhgr.ch. The counselling service is free of charge for all students of the Bachelor and consecutive Master programmes. The counselling services and workshops are also available on Moodle.

Starting in January, the internal counselling center for students would like to give you the opportunity to meet again virtually to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and ask general questions about everyday life at university. At the beginning of each workshop, there will be a short input on selected topics (including mental and physical health, time management, etc.). The workshops will take place in German.

What does this mean for me as an interested person?

The start of studies in September 2020 are planned for most study programmes to take place in hybrid mode, i.e. one half of the class is in classroom teaching on site, the other half follows the lessons in distance learning mode from home. In this mode, a distance of 1.5 m can be maintained to ensure their safety, while still allowing the highest possible amount of on-site teaching. If the class size allows, the lessons are held entirely in person.

Do not hesitate and register today for a study at the UAS Grisons!

  • If you would like advice on a specific study programme, you will find our contact persons on our study programme pages.
  • You also have the possibility to order information about our study programmes.

What does this mean for me as a student?

  • Students are allowed access to the buildings of the UAS Grisons exclusively for the use of services (library and administration) or for special forms of teaching.
  • Classroom teaching in teaching and further education will be discontinued until further notice.
  • Laboratories, workshops and similar special forms of instruction are possible in small groups upon request and in strict compliance with the protection concept.
  • Information on the mode of implementation of the module examinations will be provided later.
  • The module examinations of the autumn semester 2020 will be conducted remotely.

  • On-site events will no longer take place and should, whenever possible, be conducted in a virtual setting.
  • If possible, the spring semester 2021 is to be started in hybrid mode. The university management will decide on 13.1.2021.
  • For any questions concerning the study program, the directors of studies and study assistants are available. In the second instance you can contact the Prorectorate.
  • University sports: Team sports are no longer possible until further notice. Individual sports can be performed under personal responsibility and in compliance with the distance and hygiene rules, taking into account the cantonal or national pandemic regulations. The protection concepts of the respective organizers apply.
  • The exchange programme in the autumn semester 2021 is going ahead, however there are certain restrictions to be considered, depending on the regulations of the host institution and the host country. Contact the international office for more information: international@fhgr.ch

Solidarity modules
Voluntary or compulsory assistance assignments in civil defence or military service as well as unpaid assignments for the benefit of contact tracing, in the cantonal crisis management team or similar in the context of fighting the corona pandemic can be credited as solidarity module(s):

  • Solidarity Module I: For 1 ½ weeks (10 days) of service, 2 ECTS are credited.
  • Solidarity Module II: If the service lasts 3 weeks or more (at least 19 days), another 2 ECTS will be credited.

The credit is given as an elective or free module. For students who study according to the study and examination regulations (regular start of studies in 2019 or earlier), credit for compulsory assistance services is awarded as a compulsory or compulsory elective module. A maximum of 4 ECTS can be credited as solidarity modules over the entire study programme. An application for the crediting of an assistance assignment as a solidarity module is made via the head of studies.

The following protection concept guidelines apply:

  • Masks are compulsory on the entire premises of the UAS Grisons.
  • All students are responsible for their own protective masks.
  • Measures in the buildings of the UAS Grisons ensure contact tracing.
  • External persons must be registered with an administration to ensure contact tracing.

What does this mean for me as a job applicant?

The application procedures at the UAS Grisons will continue as normal. Job interviews, however, are currently being conducted virtually. If you have any questions, please contact the Human Resources Department: personal@fhgr.ch

What does this mean for me as a lecturer or employee?

  • Employees and lecturers have access to the rooms of the UAS Grisons with their badge
  • Home office obligation: Employers are obliged to arrange home office wherever this is possible due to the nature of the activity and can be implemented with reasonable effort. The employer does not owe the employee any compensation for expenses such as electricity or rental costs, as the arrangement is only temporary.
  • Further measures at the workplace: Where home office is not or only partially possible, further measures at the workplace are enacted: For the protection of colleagues, masks are mandatory wherever more than one person is present in a room. A large distance between workplaces in the same room is no longer sufficient.
  • Meetings and workshops can no longer be held on site until further notice.
  • Until further notice, neither internal nor external events will take place on site. If they cannot be held in a virtual setting, they should be postponed or cancelled.
  • Excursions cannot be conducted until further notice.
  • Business trips within Switzerland should be kept to a minimum and only be carried out if cantonal and national regulations permit.
  • No business trips abroad will be made until further notice. Lecturers based outside of Switzerland must conduct their lectures in distance learning.
  • For any questions concerning the study program, the study directors as well as the study assistants are at your disposal.

The following protection concept guidelines apply:

  • All lecturers and employees are responsible for their own protective masks.
  • Measures in the buildings of the UAS Grisons ensure contact tracing.
  • External persons must be registered with an administration to ensure contact tracing.
