Measures of the UAS Grisons

State: 21.09.2020

After several weeks of "extraordinary situation" due to the spread of the coronavirus, Switzerland is on its way back to a new normality. On June 19, the Federal Council announced that due to the decline in Covid-19 cases, measures to combat the virus will largely be lifted. Rules of hygiene and conduct must continue to be observed. All places accessible to the public must have a protection concept in place.

How can I stay healthy?

The canton of Graubünden summarizes the recommended hygiene rules at the workplace in this video.

Both the virtual university as well as home office have an impact on the health of each individual. Social isolation, lack of exercise and fresh air can become a burden. The Health Management Commission and the University Sports Department therefore provide some tips and online resources so that we can continue to stay together despite keeping our distance.

What does this mean for me as an interested person?

The start of studies in September 2020 are planned for most study programmes to take place in hybrid mode, i.e. one half of the class is in classroom teaching on site, the other half follows the lessons in distance learning mode from home. In this mode, a distance of 1.5 m can be maintained to ensure their safety, while still allowing the highest possible amount of on-site teaching. If the class size allows, the lessons are held entirely in person.

Do not hesitate and register today for a study at the UAS Grisons!

  • If you would like advice on a specific study programme, you will find our contact persons on our study programme pages.
  • You also have the possibility to order information about our study programmes.

Is it possible for foreigners to enter the country in the fall semester?
Students from the EU/EFTA countries as well as from third countries can be admitted to the autumn semester 2020. However, if you are unable to begin your studies in autumn 2020 due to corona entry restrictions, the CHF 300 registration fee is refundable.

What does this mean for me as a student?

  • The buildings of the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons have been reopened to students with on-site classroom teaching from 1 September 2020. Due to the limited capacity of the premises and in compliance with the protection concept, we kindly ask you to stay at home if you do not have classes or other obligations at the university.
  • In the classrooms, students must maintain a distance of at least 1.5 meters. This distance rule reduces the capacity of the classrooms.
  • Students from a Covid-19 risk group can complete the autumn semester 2020 in distance learning with a medical certificate. The details are to be arranged with the head of studies.
  • The study directors and study assistants are available for any questions concerning the study programmes. In the second instance you can contact the Prorectorate.
  • The microwaves are available as usual to members of the UAS Grisons. Disinfectants are provided.
  • University sport: The clarifications for the autumn semester 2020 are in progress. The protection concepts of the partner organizations are published on their respective websites.

The following protection concept guidelines apply:

  • The protective mask may only be taken off in the classrooms and offices. And this only if a minimum distance of 1.5 metres can be maintained.
  • All students are responsible for their own protective masks.
  • Measures in the buildings of the UAS Grisons ensure contact tracing.
  • External persons must be registered with an administration to ensure contact tracing.

Regulations for study and examination operations in special and extraordinary situations.

Bachelor and consecutive Master students

  • In the autumn semester 2020, including block weeks, classes at the UAS Grisons will take place according to the timetable.
  • In order to comply with the protection concept, the UAS Grisons will offer the Bachelor's programmes as well as the consecutive Master's programmes in the autumn semester in hybrid teaching format.
  • The hybrid teaching in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes will achieve the following objectives:
    • In person teaching: Under the given distance rules, the highest possible proportion of face-to-face teaching on site is possible.
    • Health: The protection concept can be adhered to and the risk for students and teachers as well as their relatives can be minimized.
    • Planning security remains high for everyone.
  • Decision on the exchange programs:
    • Exchange semester: Continue planning your exchange semester in close consultation with the International Office.
  • Foreign students:
    • Foreign students with a valid Swiss residence permit can enter Switzerland. Please note that you should extend your residence permit early.
    • If you live in a foreign country close to the border and commute across the border for your studies, you can enter and leave Switzerland again without restrictions.
    • Please pay attention to the list of risk countries and the associated obligatory ten day quarantine regulations.

Continuing Education Students

  • Classes in the autumn semester 2020 will take place at the UAS Grisons according to the timetable.
  • Information about teaching at the different locations will be provided by the respective head of studies.

What does this mean for me as a job applicant?

The application procedures at the UAS Grisons will continue as normal, despite limited operations. Job interviews, however, are currently being conducted virtually. If you have any questions, please contact the Human Resources Department: personal@fhgr.ch

What does this mean for me as a lecturer or employee?

  • Since 1 September a hybrid form of working applies. The details are to be discussed with the supervisor. Availability must be guaranteed on working days in accordance with the working hours regulations.
  • Events and excursions can be resumed if hygiene and safety measures are observed. The event team is available for any questions regarding events: events@fhgr.ch.
  • Business trips within Switzerland are again possible, provided that cantonal and national regulations allow it.
  • Business trips abroad are possible from 1 September until the end of the year under certain conditions. However, the responsible department heads must coordinate and seek the approval of the Crisis Management team. As a rule, meetings should take place virtually. Participants must inform themselves about any entry and return travel restrictions.
The respective protection concepts of the organisers, which are published on the website, will be applicable.

The following protection concept guidelines apply:

  • The protective mask may only be taken off in the classrooms and offices. And this only if a minimum distance of 1.5 metres can be maintained.
  • All lecturers and employees are responsible for their own protective masks.
  • Measures in the buildings of the UAS Grisons ensure contact tracing.
  • External persons must be registered with an administration to ensure contact tracing.

On January 27, 2020, the UAS Grisons activated the emergency management team due to the spread of the coronavirus. As part of contingency planning, various task forces were convened to ensure the UAS' ability to act in all situations.
