Creative Media & Digital Innovation Exchange Programme – enjoying the perfect study-life-balance in Chur for a semester
In the autumn semester, the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons offers a 30 ECTS English-taught programme for exchange students “Creative Media and Digital Innovation”. Incoming students will be able to benefit from a unique study programme combining courses from the fields of Multimedia Production and Digital Business Management. Both fields are combined in a multidisciplinary project (8 ECTS credits) in which students independently develop a research question and either theoretically or practically work on it in a creative manner. The multidisciplinary project can draw from the following disciplines and will be mentored by faculty members specialised in these fields: visualization, interactive media, video and audio production, animation, live communication, corporate communication, radio production, media science, user experience, xR, data science, digital business innovation and digital strategy.
The focus of this module lies in the independent development and implementation of a project in the form of a scientific paper or the production of an artefact. The students develop a research question and work independently either using a theoretical approach or in a practical, creative manner. The topic of this project can be chosen independently.
Stories have been told since time immemorial. As a method, storytelling is used in all areas that have to do with communication. The Digital Storytelling module explores various ways of using digital means to tell stories in exciting and new ways. The goal is always to reach the audience in the best possible way.
Choose either a beginner’s German language course or an English language course (regular English and Business English courses are available at levels B2-C1).
In the Information Graphics module students will learn how to translate and arrange raw data into a visual and narrative form. The visual translation can support an easier understanding of abstract and often inaccessible information. Participants of the course will be introduced to various approaches of data visualization and develop hands-on design drafts in this specific field of graphic design.
Designing a Video Game
Students will learn about how games are made from the perspective of a game director. They will gain a comprehensive overview of the game development process; a deep understanding of gaming’s artistic scope; learn how to define gameplay objectives, the user experience and narrative structure; conceptualise game mechanics; level design, world building and character design fundamentals.
International and Intercultural Communication
The world is moving closer together. Thanks to new technologies and international interconnectedness, we are working and living more and more globally. Does this make us communicate and understand each other better? Successful intercultural communication begins with the perception of one's own culture and mental systems. Once we are aware of this, we can develop the ability to distinguish and understand different cultural influences in a more subtle way and thereby improve our intercultural communication.
Introduction to Programming 1
Usually software development and implementation of information systems require a profound knowledge of algorithms, data structures and programming languages. However, with a basic expertise in computer programming it is already possible to understand the possibilities and limitations of software engineering. In this course, students will learn to use the programming language Python, implement their own small software projects and make smaller changes to other Python projects.
In this module students will acquire sound knowledge how to manage products for digital business models in the areas of productization, promotion & roll-out as well as feedback & education. Students will learn why product management is crucial for digital business management, craft a product strategy and develop a product roadmap for real use cases.
Digital Transformation and Disruption
Technological progress and ubiquitous network connections combined with entrepreneurial ingenuity are turning industries upside down. The course takes an in-depth look at the root causes and effects of this tremendous shift and introduces key concepts and models that help understanding digital disruption better. Further, the course comprises company visits and thereby offers practical insights.
Apart from a unique study programme in a professional, modern environment, a stay at the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons offers students the opportunity to live in a stunning region with over 1,000 mountains, 150 valleys and 615 lakes. Only a couple of minutes from the campus is Brambrüesch mountain, an ideal area for hiking, biking and skiing. There are regular buses and trains between Chur and the manifold mountain areas of the Grisons, which are loved by tourists from around the world. Chur has numerous museums, restaurants and cafés as well as plenty of bars to meet up with friends and enjoy the lively city's exciting nightlife. Furthermore, Switzerland’s location in the heart of Europe makes it an ideal base for city trips to Zurich, Munich, Milan or Paris.
The exchange programme will take place during the autumn semester of 2020 from 7 September 2020 to 22 January 2021. Exams are scheduled to be held between 25 January 2021 and 12 February 2021. Overall, a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 30 ECTS credits can be acquired, depending on the regulations of the sending institution.
