Degree programme at a glance
Photonics plays an important role in your everyday life without you even being aware of it. Your smartphone’s alarm wakes you up early in the morning, the brightness of the touchscreen is automatically adjusted to your surroundings and you can check the latest news via fibre-optic or satellite communication. When you enter a shop, optical infrared sensors automatically open the door for you. And in the evening, you are able to enjoy the brilliant colours of your OLED large-screen TV. Photonics is used in all of these examples and this is precisely what the study programme is about: understanding, using and further developing light-based technologies.
