Prof. Dr. Urs Dahinden
Urs Dahinden (Prof. Dr.) works as professor for communication science and senior researcher at the University of Applied Sciences University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons (Switzerland). He is also teaching and supervising PhD-students as a senior lecturer ("Privatdozent") at the IKMZ (Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research) at the University of Zurich. His research interests are in the field of health and science communication, new information and communication technology and empirical research methods. He has been involved in several national and international research projects focusing on the perception and understanding of complex scientific and medical issues (e. g. biotechnology, prostate cancer, vaccinations, climate change etc.) by lay people. Several of his projects have evaluated the interaction of lay people with information and communication technology and have developped suggestions and tools how to improve the usability of such complex information systems. Urs Dahinden has published his research findings in international peer reviewed journals and in a number of book chapters and books. He is a reviewer for several scientific journals (e.g. Public Understanding of Science, Patient Education and Counseling, Studies in Communication Science) and research funding agencies (e.g. Federal Office of Public Health in Switzerland or the Swiss National Science Foundation).
