Which institution do they choose in the longrun? We study migration patterns in a laboratory experiment that allows participants to migrate con-tinuously between punishment and reward communities. The majority of participants initially choosesthe reward institution, but a substantial number of subjects joins the less profitable punishmentcommunity subsequently. In this case, the mere threat of punishment establishes high contributions.Income differences and missing compensations for cooperators in the reward community are the keyfactors for the decision to migrate TS - RIS T4 - On the evolution of sanctioning institutions in open communities Y3 - 04.02.2021 AR - 109155 M4 - Citavi ER -
