The SVP has launched a popular initiative to bring the Swiss population to vote for the implementation of this law on a national level. Meanwhile, the overnight stays of the Arab market, which is the visitor segment with the highest daily expenditure in the Swiss tourism industry, are constantly increasing. Unfortunately, it is also the target which is affected by such a law, due to their cultural values and religious belief. The aim is to define the consequences this ban would have on the Swiss tourism industry. A general overview about the Arab outbound travel market, the Islamic culture as well as the developments of the law in Europe and Ticino are provided.
