New expectations in the sphere of guest experience, design and the use of space pose strategic challenges for independent hotels. The notion of hotel concepts is anchored on strategic planning principles and forms a coherent whole of the creative and strategic direction of the hotel project. The topic of how to conceptualize a hotel has barely been addressed in academic literature and it is also unclear to what extent hotel managers and owners understand the term. Thus, this qualitative explorative thesis is dedicated to the understanding and prevalence of hotel concepts in rural unaffiliated hotels. It aims to answer the question to what extent a strategic planning approach has led to a hotel concept paper. For this purpose, in-depth interviews with industry experts, hotel owners and managers were conducted. The findings provide relevant insights about the status quo of hotel concept crafting in the Swiss leisure hotel industry. M3 - Bachelorarbeit Tourismus M4 - Citavi ER -
