Dominik Schwizer
PhD (Economics), University of St. Gallen (HSG)
Lecturer
Centre for Business Administration (ZBW)
I am a sports economist (Dr. oec. HSG) and a bridge-builder between academia, sport, and business. My passion lies in conveying complex economic interrelationships in sport—through critical thinking, writing, visualization, and teaching. It is particularly important to me to make knowledge accessible through sound analysis and to contribute to the positive development of sport in society. My ambition is to be clear in my analysis and independent in my judgement.
During my studies, I worked part-time as a sports journalist. Today, I work part-time as a lecturer in sport management and focus on how economic thinking shapes modern sport. In addition, I advise and support sports organizations in developing and implementing strategies within the sports sector, primarily through teaching projects conducted together with students.
I am currently working on practice-oriented publications aimed at translating solid knowledge into concrete applications and enriching the sport management sector in a sustainable way. In 2025, the edited volume Sport Management in Europe – Perspectives and Implications for Practice was published by Edward Elgar—a product of the Sport Management Research Network, of which I am a founding member. In 2026, the book Data Excellence in Sports – A Practical Guide for Sports Organizations, co-authored with Michael Burch, will be published by Springer.
