47-year-old Gian-Paolo Curcio has worked at the PH Graubünden for over thirteen years, first as deputy rector and head of the basic education department and since summer 2014 as rector of the university. After graduating from the Upper Valais Teachers' College in Brig, the Valais native studied education and educational psychology, contemporary history and modern history at the University of Fribourg. After graduating, Gian-Paolo Curcio worked as a research assistant at the Military Academy at ETH Zurich and completed his doctorate on the subject of ‘Responsibility Motivation. Between morality and justice. An empirical study on the decision-making behaviour of military leaders’. After working as a project manager at the Chair of Educational Sciences at the University of Fribourg and several years as a career officer in the Swiss army, he moved to the University of Teacher Education in Graubünden. During his activities as Vice-Rector and Rector, he completed a postgraduate programme in General Management (Executive MBA) at the HSG in St. Gallen. As a militia officer with the rank of Colonel in the General Staff, he serves as Chief of Staff of the 3rd Territorial Division.
