Evaluation of data usage

Overview

Overview

In the research field of evaluation of data use, the focus is on the user of a specific data offering (e.g. a website or an interactive system) who wants to meet a specific information need by using the data. In addition to the automated analyses already mentioned, data usage also includes manual evaluation and analysis as part of individual queries.

In order for this knowledge to be easily used for collaboration within the company, it must be externalized by employees using suitable knowledge management methods and technologies so that it can then be specifically analysed (knowledge research) and further developed.

This field of research investigates which measures can be used to plan and implement the use of data in the best possible way and evaluate its success. The starting point is the observation that both organizations and individuals are challenged by the rapid growth of data and must learn to develop a meaningful and purposeful approach to it. These challenges are particularly demanding in knowledge-intensive areas (including science communication, health communication and journalism) and are therefore particularly suitable for user research. The methods used in this field of research are qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social research (including expert interviews, focus groups, standardized surveys, observations, etc.).

The focus is on planned learning processes aimed at improving the use of information against the background of specific values and objectives.
