On 1 March 2026, Prof. Dr Guido Schuster took up his position as Head of the Department of Applied Future Technologies.
After completing his PhD at Northwestern University (USA) and pursuing a successful career in industry – most recently as Senior Director at a Fortune 500 company in Chicago – the native of St. Gallen returned to Switzerland in 2000 and accepted a professorship at the then University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil. In 2020, he founded the Interdisciplinary Center for Artificial Intelligence, the OST’s competence centre for artificial intelligence, which he has since successfully developed and established as its institute director.
With Guido Schuster, the Department of Applied Future Technologies gained a distinguished leader with proven academic credentials and many years of industry experience in the field of digital technologies. He will significantly advance the transfer of research results into practice and thereby further strengthen the innovative capacity of the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons. His research work, patents, and numerous publications underline his international reputation and demonstrate his outstanding expertise in the fields of engineering and computer science.
