It also performs applied research in these disciplines and in doing so contributes to the development of innovations, knowledge and solutions for society. Since 1 January 2020, the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons has been Switzerland’s eighth public university of applied sciences. The history of the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons dates back to 1963 with the foundation of the 'Abendtechnikum Chur', a technical college of evening courses.
The University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons has been an independent legal entity under public law since 1 January 2006.
What do we stand for?
On 14 December 2018, the Federal Council recognised University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons qualification for financial support. The way has thus been opened for Switzerland’s eighth public university of applied sciences from 1 January 2020. Only upon gaining independence will the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons be able to introduce additional training and further education programmes as part of its business opportunities – in addition to its current profile. The Grisons educational institution already offers a number of university-level study programmes that are found nowhere else in Switzerland.
New name, new appearance
Since 3 September 2019, the name 'HTW Chur' has been a thing of the past. On this day, 'University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons' was launched in the presence of the President of the Cantonal Government and Head of the Department of Education, Culture and Environment Protection (EKUD), Dr Jon Domenic Parolini, as well as the President of the University Council, Brigitta M. Gadient. The objective of the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons is to broaden the brand’s appeal and communicate its innovative and, in some cases, unique offering.
