Overview

The research focus area of Smart Sensors and Applied Robotics looks at the application of photonics technologies for the procurement and evaluation of information, primarily in the application areas of industry and medical technology as well as the development of intelligent robots.

The project cycles typically follow the chain shown in red in the illustration below. We generate data using optoelectronic sensors. If these contain image sensors, the recorded data is processed further using image processing algorithms. If this recording of measurement parameters is combined with intelligent algorithms, so-called smart sensors can be realised. These sensors can in turn be combined with actuator technology, drive technology, communication, navigation and energy technology in order to realise intelligent, autonomous and/or mobile robots.

As shown by the golden ellipses in the presentation, the project chain can be broken down into the three research fields of Optoelectronics, Image Processing and Applied Robotics.
