  • Bau, Frank; Wagner, Kerstin (2015): Measuring corporate entrepreneurship culture. In: International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Small Business 25, S. 231-244. Available online at https://doi.org/10.1504/IJESB.2015.069287, last checked on 17.07.2020

Abstract: Corporate entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship are behavioural and cultural patterns that can help companies to grow competitive changing environmental conditions. Literature on internal firm factors was used to develop the corporate entrepreneurship index (CESi) adaptive on the employee level. This study develops and assesses the index measuring organisational, culture-related and market-related factors that might influence the employees' abilities to intrapreneurial behaviour. Data were collected from a Swiss health insurance company with the biannual employee opinion survey covering 301 respondents. Based on factor analysis of 33 items, our empirical findings identified four key factors: 1) leadership quality and effectiveness; 2) cooperation, information and innovation; 3) product and market knowledge; 4) tasks and responsibility. The paper contributes to the literature with a new tool to measure the perception on all employees' level. From a practical perspective, the results indicate that the CESi delivers data to better understand the current strength of the corporate entrepreneurship (CE) culture to design effective interventions.

  • Bau, Frank; Bentivegna, Thomas; Forster, Michael (2014): Ad-hoc Innovation Networks of European SMEs. A typology of networks based on a multiple case study. 12th Interdisciplinary European Conference on Entrepreneurship Research (IECER). Chur, 12. - 14. März, 2014

Abstract: An accepted theory in Business Management holds that innovation and networks are positively connected to one another due to a wide range of reasons, as there is a strong body of research detailing this relationship. However, despite this wealth of information, the role of informal innovation networks along with their associated structures and purposes remains unclear. Based on a multiple case study conducted with 28 companies, patterns of informal networks are investigated in this research through which small and medium sized companies are using to accompany their innovation activities. By utilizing a cluster analysis, the results of our paper show a typology of 5 informal innovation network types independently separate based on several innovation-centered factors, including content, geography, cooperation scale, and structure of the network.

Abstract: Ingenieure sind am schwierigsten zu finden.

Abstract: Since the late 1990s there has been a tremendous growth in formal teaching of entrepreneurship at research universities and universities of applied Sciences (Fachhochschulen) throughout Germany. From a Situation where there were no professors at all in this field, there are currently over 50 such positions created by a combination of state, federal and private funding. However, there has been very little research into how effectively these investments in higher education resources have been used and whether or not they are addressing the needs of students. In this paper, we empirically investigate several important issues related to the activities and perception of entrepreneurship education focusing on the demand side of entrepreneurship education.

Perceptions of University Target Groups In: Fritsch, Michael; Schmude, Jürgen (Hg.): Entrepreneurship in the Region: Boston, MA: Springer US (International Studies in Entrepreneurship), S. 245-264

    DOI: https://doi.org/10.1007/0-387-28376-5_12

Abstract: One of the major problems still faced by entrepreneurship scholars in their field is the difficulty of creating a conceptual framework, integrating entrepreneurship theory-development into a coherent scheme. The discussion of what entrepreneurship research is about has been conducted by numerous authors (e.g. Busenitz et al., 2003; Bygrave and Hofer, 1991; Davidsson and Wiklund, 2001; Gartner, 2001; Low and MacMillan, 1988; Shane and Venkataraman, 2000). There is consensus that entrepreneurship research can include the creation and development of new organizations. However, this is not sufficient, because entrepreneurship can also happen within existing organizations or, furthermore, opportunities can be sold to other individuals or to existing organizations (Shane and Venkataraman, 2000, 219).
